Flow Modulated GC*GC

Compositional Information on Refinery Streams

The development of 2D gas chromatography introduced the possibility to provide detailed and reliable compositional information on refinery streams like f.i. jet fuel. ACs Flow Modulation based solutions provides group-type analysis that is rugged, requires very low maintenance, and performs excellent.

All applications are optimized by tuning column lengths, column phase, column coating, column flows and GC oven programming towards target compound range and sample type.

These system parameters are all critical in obtaining rugged modulation and since the modulator is the heart of every GCxGC system, they are vital for getting accurate results for the particular application.

Applications: Multidimensional Group Type, Hydrocarbon Streams

A novel way of flow modulation was implemented by AC to improve on the more standard way of flow modulation. This yields sharper, better defined peaks and thus better peak resolution as
demonstrated in figure 2.

The flow modulation was further optimized for the analysis of Jet Fuels by tuning column lengths, column phase, column coating, column flows and GC oven programming.

These system parameters are all critical in obtaining proper modulation and since the modulator is the heart of every GCxGC system they are vital for getting proper results.

AC Analytical Controls has developed the first dedicated analyzer for routine group type analysis of (bio)diesel fuel products and Jet fuels, based on comprehensive GCxGC. The analyzer delivers reliable quantitative data on iso- and normal Paraffins, Naphtenes and Aromatics, as well as FAMEs.

Significant improvements to the flow modulator technology deliver high resolution separations sufficient for research goals, but also allows for accurate analysis and a much more robust analyzer that can even be run in routine environments.
