Paper Box Quality Control Seminar: Using Standard Testing to Help Reduce Costs
Chemical House & Lab Instrument Co., Ltd. held a seminar titled “Cost of Quality to Cost Saving: Paper Box Quality Control Through Testing Based on Thai Industrial Standards (TIS).” The event helped corrugated box manufacturers and businesses learn how to use testing to improve quality control, reduce the risk of customer complaints, and reduce product damage caused by packaging.
The seminar covered TIS requirements, ISO test methods, and the importance of equipment calibration. Experts also demonstrated testing equipment to show how these standards apply to daily work in factories.
Understanding TIS Standards for Paper and Corrugated Boxes
Participants learned about the quality requirements of TIS 550-2555, TIS 170-2568, and TIS 321-2563, along with ISO standards related to paper and corrugated box testing. These topics helped participants understand quality criteria and choose suitable test methods for their materials and products.
This knowledge supports quality control at every stage, from checking the paper used in production to testing finished boxes before use.
Learning Test Methods for Paper and Corrugated Boxes
The seminar explained testing principles, requirements, and sample preparation for packaging quality checks, including:
- Burst Test under ISO 2759: Measures how well board can resist pressure before it bursts.
- Edge Crush Test (ECT) under ISO 3037: Measures the strength of corrugated board when pressure is applied to its edge.
- Grammage testing under ISO 3039: Measures the weight per unit area of each paper layer after the layers of corrugated board have been separated.
- Drop Test: Introduces ISO 2248 and ISTA testing guidelines to explain how packaging is tested for its ability to protect products from impacts during transport.
Understanding the correct test methods and sample preparation helps staff use test results to check quality and investigate production problems more effectively.
Understanding Calibration and ISO/IEC 17025
Another key topic was equipment calibration and the role of ISO/IEC 17025, a standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Participants learned how equipment care and calibration support reliable test results.
The seminar also addressed common misunderstandings about ISO/IEC 17025, helping businesses understand the scope of the standard and apply this knowledge correctly to their quality control work.
Exploring Testing Equipment Through Live Demonstrations
Participants learned about the roles of the Crush Tester, Burst Tester, and RoQ in quality control. Experts demonstrated the Crush Tester and Burst Tester, covering sample preparation, equipment operation, and precautions that could affect test results.
These demonstrations showed how the equipment is used in practice and why choosing suitable equipment must go hand in hand with using the correct test methods.
Applying Knowledge to Improve Quality and Reduce Costs
Chemical House & Lab Instrument would like to thank everyone who attended the seminar. We hope the knowledge shared will help businesses improve quality checks, identify the causes of problems, and reduce costs from defective products and rework.
For businesses looking to improve paper and corrugated box testing, Chemical House offers advice on choosing suitable testing equipment and using it correctly. Our team is ready to help factories meet their testing needs and customer requirements.
